Facebook Creative Labs, the team behind Paper, Slingshot, and Mentions, has released its fourth independent app, Rooms. The app aims to promote anonymous online conversations, something that happened in the early days of the internet, when almost all users were anonymous and discussed in forums and chatrooms. Back when social networks didn't exist.
Initially available for iOS in the UK, US and some other English-speaking countries, the Rooms app allows you to create and manage communities with specific topics for discussion. Each community contains text, photo and video posts, as well as comments and likes from its users.
Users can only join communities through an invitation that they must receive from other users. The invitation is in the form of an image with a specificQR code and the application scans the device's photos to automatically find invitations and connect the user to communities. As you can see, the user does not use a username or password or email or Facebook account to join. He simply uses his device.
Each Rooms user can use any name they wish, real or pseudonymous. Users can also have a different name in each community, depending on their preferences.
