Is Russia creating its own controlled, closed internet?

The idea of ​​a closed internet is not new, just look at East Asia and the Great Firewall of China dominates.

The Chinese government is known for the control it wants to exert over its citizens' levels of access to the internet, and this has been demonstrated by the many well-documented cases of censorship and the limited access to pages that mention certain historical events in the country.

The country is extremely defensive about its image and has made efforts to combat Western influence – including banning the migration of government computers to Windows 8, Microsoft’s latest operating system that has been used to spy on the People’s Republic of China. Now it looks like it could follow a similar path.
