Reebok's website went down when a mistake allowed visitors to order sneakers by paying only shipping. Thousands of visitors rushed to order after the news spread on Facebook and various forums.
The "offer" was for CrossFit Nano Speed shoes, which normally cost £100. Due to the error, they were charged at zero and the bill only included £8.50 for shipping.
Eventually, the company corrected the price, much to the disappointment of those who had placed their orders and had even received confirmation via email. Now the company says it will not send them the shoes at the price they ordered, but will give them a 20% discount.
A British woman who bought four pairs from Reebok.co.uk said she learned about the offer from a friend and that she immediately went to the site, chose the pairs she liked and added a personal touch to them, as the site suggested, in order to give them to her father, her boyfriend, and her siblings.
"It's very disappointing that Reebok is not honoring the deal they made, because I thought I was done with half of my Christmas gift list," he said.
