Check your Facebook privacy settings here and now!

In case you haven't noticed, Facebook has been rolling out a more powerful search feature. The service, which launched last week, is called Search FYI.

Check your Facebook privacy settings here and now!

Tom Stocky, Facebook, said, "When something is happening in the world, people often turn to Facebook to see how their friends and family are reacting. Today, we're updating Facebook Search so that in addition to friends and family, you can find what people are saying about the topics that matter to you."

Sounds perfect, right?

In theory, yes. However, as with Facebook's technological advances – there are some downsides.

Similar to Google's search engine, Facebook Search FYI organizes posts and makes them searchable for users. The limitation, however, is that any post that was published as PUBLIC can be searched and found by any user on Facebook.

For those who have had Facebook since its inception, this means that some posts you may not want to be public can now be found through search.

What should you do?

So what I suggest is that you try to "lock down" your privacy settings as much as you can. This means only connecting with people you know and limiting access to those who can see your posts.

While “public” is an easy default, we should realize that the only people who really gain from these types of posts are the social network stakeholders, as they add material to their data collection.

So, stop what you're doing and check your security settings NOW.

How can I check my personal data?

If you haven't checked Facebook , follow the simple steps in the video below:
