Apple always comes up with catchy slogans and labels for its products, and the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are no exception to that rule. “The only thing that’s changed is everything,” Apple claims, although we all know that the differences between the iPhone 6 and 6S aren’t really that impressive.
And it's this small difference between the old and new models that's causing trouble for Apple in China, as local authorities are very close to fining the company for false advertising.
A report from Sina News reveals that a Chinese lawyer has decided to take legal action against Apple and China Mobile, the carrier that actually sells the iPhone in the country and which placed the aforementioned slogan on its website, because it violates a new advertising law.
There are no more superlatives
In seeking restitution of about $3,000 (€2,850), the lawyer cites a new law that prohibits businesses from using misleading or false language, stating that a fine of about 200,000 yen ($31,000 / €29,500) is possible for those who violate regulations . The law went into effect on September 1 of this year and prohibits businesses from using superlatives such as “the best” and “more,” according to ZDNet.
China Mobile has already removed the iPhone slogan from its page, but Apple China is still using it, which increases the chances of getting a fine.
In other words, when we say "everything has changed," we really mean it, so if there's one single thing that's the same about the new iPhone when comparing it to the previous model, chances are Apple could be fined.
The company has yet to issue a statement on the matter, but given the fact that the slogan is still there on its Chinese website, the company doesn't seem to be afraid of violating this new law.
