Snakebot from MIT that changes shape and can become anything you want!

Robotics is an avenue that many companies are still trying to navigate, and for good reason. A good robot assistant could, in theory at least, significantly improve our productivity and lifestyle. But we often imagine them as humanoid or at least in recognizable animal forms or based on their limbs. That 's why LineFORM, from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is so refreshing and truly modern, and created the snakebot.

Snakebot from MIT that changes shape and can become anything you want!

The MIT prototype from Tangible Media Group is a robot (snakebot), responding to input to transform from a data cable, to a wearable strap, or even a (say) mobile phone. LineFORM used a semi-flexible skeleton to create it.

More specifically, it can "transform" itself into a bracelet that offers you haptic feedback when synchronized with your laptop or mobile phone.

It can take the form of a telephone, although the prototype form has none of the telephone in it.

Your snakebot can become your adjustable desk lamp, once you connect a lamp to it.

Or it could be a connecting cable that vibrates when data passes through it. Because who wants to look at their screen to know if something is being copied to the hard drive or not?

Of course, this could provide a great opportunity for future hacker-killers to hack into your friendly snakebot and use it to kill you in your bed. So maybe you should sleep with one eye open!
