Google gives a new look to the Play Store

phone2Google's App Store has been redesigned. The company began showing off the new Play Store design on Thursday. The update adds a revamped homepage, which features horizontal scrolling and better search features.

The most notable difference is on the Play Store homepage , which divides offerings into two sections: “Apps & Games” and “Entertainment.” The Entertainment section will house Google Play’s collections of music, movies, books, TV shows, and other content, while Apps & Games will house apps for smartphones and tablets.

The revamped Play Store also uses horizontal scrolling to make searching easier (instead of scrolling down, you can swipe left and right to navigate between sections of the app). It also adds a new bar at the top that highlights newly updated content.

Behind the scenes, Google has also been working on other functionality features that improve search within the Play Store, such as better recommendations and more relevant search results. The company has also shown its commitment to family life in recent months. Google added a new age-based rating system for developers and a family-friendly experience across Google Play earlier this year.

As with other updates to the Play Store, this one will be gradually rolled out to Android users over the coming weeks.

The latest appearance is probably the most dramatic change to the Android app store in recent years.
