PRESS RELEASE – The Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate (CDP) has investigated another significant case of child pornography via the internet.
A regular procedure case was filed against a 28-year-old Greek national
Thousands of digital files (videos and photos) of child pornography were found on the digital media he possessed
Another important case of child pornography was investigated by the Hellenic Police's Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate (DIE), in the context of combating child pornography via the internet, and a regular procedure file was filed against a 28-year-old Greek national.
In particular, after appropriate digital analysis of information material, it emerged that the above perpetrator allegedly possesses, on a computer in his home, files (images and videos) containing child pornography, several of which involve minors under the age of 15.
As part of the investigation of the case by the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate (DIE), a thorough digital investigation and analysis of data and evidence was conducted, while an order was issued by the Athens First Instance Prosecutor's Office to conduct a preliminary examination.
From the methodical police and digital investigation, the involvement of the aforementioned in the case emerged and yesterday (25-5-2015), a team of police officers from the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate (DIE), in the presence of a judicial officer, went to his home in an area of Attica, where his mother was staying.
From the on-site investigation carried out on the electronic storage media found in the 28-year-old's home, and specifically in his room, thousands of files of child pornography were found stored, several of which had names referring to minors under fifteen (15) years of age.
Following an oral order from the head of the competent First Instance Prosecutor's Office, the ex parte procedure was not followed, as the above-mentioned person is hospitalized, having not had physical access for the last fortnight, from the time of the home search, to the digital media located in his home.
From the lawful investigation that was carried out, the following were found and seized:
- Eight (8) portable storage units (USB sticks).
- Seven (7) internal computer hard drives.
- Eleven (11) external hard drives.
The digital evidence will be sent to the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) for the necessary laboratory tests, while the regular procedure file, which was formed for the case, will be submitted to the Athens First Instance Prosecutor's Office.
