ESET has released a new version of its Social Media Scanner for Facebook and Twitter. With a completely redesigned interface and improved detection capabilities, it adds another layer of protection to ESET's security solutions, and it's completely free.
Social Media Scanner is used by more than 150,000 users. Every day, it detects more than 28,000 malicious or suspicious links on Facebook and 10,000 malicious or suspicious links on Twitter. “We found that Facebook users are three times more likely to stumble upon malicious or suspicious links than Twitter users.
“Facebook is increasingly targeted by cybercriminals due to the platform’s large user base, accounts with linked credit cards, and the amount of data – often personal – shared, such as home address, email or current location,” says Mário Turner, product manager for ESET Social Media Scanner. Of all malicious or suspicious links, 73% were detected on Facebook, with the rest on Twitter.
