Email threats appear to have been sent to Sony Picturesand their families after the breach of Sony's computer network, the FBI late Friday night.
While the FBI confirmed that it is investigating the threats in the messages sent to Sony Pictures employees, it declined to confirm further details about these threats.
The threats sent by email state, among other things: “many things beyond imagination will happen in many parts of the world… Please sign your name in opposition to the company’s lies, at the email address below, if you do not want to suffer any harm. If you do not do so, not only you but also your family is at risk.” The text of the email was first reported by “Variety”.
On November 24, a hacking group calling itself the “Guardians of Peace,” GOP, claimed to have internal Sony Pictures data, including the company’s “secrets,” and threatened to release the data to the public if their demands were not met. It is still unclear what the GOP’s demands are.
As reported hackershave stolen at least 100 T of data, including movies, in volume, about 10 times larger than the data in the Library of Congress. It contains passwords, employee insurance numbers, and even contracts with actors and producers.
