Over the past 20 years, computer systems and software systems have evolved, but outside of tablets, there have been no innovations in design. Intel wants to change that in the near future.
With portable computers gaining ground at the expense of traditional computers and laptops, Intel wants to make changes in depth, beyond the external appearance.
One thing we already knew was the ability to operate without cables. In 2016 we will have the first samples of this transition that will be complete by 2020.
Now Intel is providing us with information about another of its goals: more secure connections for PCs and generally greater security.
You are the Password in 2015
Passwords have always been around. Now Intel aims to eliminate them, or rather eliminate the need for them, at least for computers, and replace them with a biometric login system.
This has two goals. First, it will eliminate cables and any need for a password. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth will be the only ways to connect.
Secondly, it will be necessary to install a camera, microphones and other sensors in order to determine who the owner of the computer is.
Of course, since the system is called “you are the password” or YAP for short, all it does is turn you into a password, by scanning your face, your fingerprints or recording your voice. This means that passwords don’t actually disappear, they just take on a different form.
Other applications for facial recognition.
If the YAP system can recognize anyone, even if they have a twin brother, then it can certainly be used elsewhere, such as in system control, in recording expressions and displaying them, and perhaps even in creating artificial intelligence that can recognize emotions.
