Facebook can be a vast sea of information today… with real-time updates and photos from thousands of brands, friends, and groups .
However, when this popular social networking site launched on February 4, 2004, it looked nothing like the platform we all know.
According to Facebook 's first CTO , Adam D'Angelo, there were only eight features when the site launched. D'Angelo wrote about them on Quora, as Business Insider reports.
These are:
1. accounts (Required real user names only for anyone with Harvard email addresses.
2. Invitations (They could be sent to any Harvard email address).
3. Profile (with a unique photo of the user)
4. User Information (Anyone who had an account could enrich it with their personal information)
5. Search by name, university year and courses
6. Restrictions on who can see the profile (only visible to friends)
7. A graph of the user's friends
8. Friends, including friend requests
You got it right. There was no messaging. There were no pokes or notifications. There were no walls or updates, and only one photo was allowed.
