In light of the latest hacker attacks, it is interesting to look at some of the names of the most well-known hacker groups, which ironically do not have offensive names, but rather friendly ones.
CrowdStrike tracks about 70 different hacking groups around the world, most of which are based in China, Russia, and Iran. But for the sake of history, let's talk about the 3 most dangerous ones.
Deep Panda
It is the most advanced Chinese attack group active today, specializing in attacks on government organizations, defense systems, and telecommunications. It is believed to be acting on behalf of the Chinese government.
Putter Panda
Since its inception in 2007, Putter Panda has targeted American and European defense and aerospace industries. It is located in Shanghai and is believed to operate under government supervision, using buildings owned by the People's Liberation Army (PLA).
Flying Kitten
Since mid-January, CrowdStrike has been observing the Iranian-based hacking group Flying Kitten, which has targeted U.S. defense industry interests as well as dissidents of the Iranian government. Its actions indicate that it either operates on behalf of the government or has been hired by the government to cause harm to those who disagree with the country’s policies.
