A «food robot», which can evaluate the composition of Thai food, was developed with the help of the country's former prime minister, Yingluck Shinawatra.
As reported in a related BBC article, the idea originated from the former prime minister due to her dissatisfaction with the quality of Thai food she found in other countries.
The robot was scheduled to be presented on Tuesday in Bangkok, and it is part of a broader framework of increasing use of computers for food analysis.
The so-called «e-delicious» has ten sensors that create a «chemical signature» for the food, which is then compared with the «standard» of each recipe, as approved by 120 taste testers.
The device consists of three parts: an electronic «nose» for evaluating the smell using 16 air sensors, an electronic «tongue» and a central processing unit that collects the data and evaluates the result. Each test does not last more than 30 minutes.
The program is an initiative of the former government – it fell after a military coup in May- which had set up a special committee (Thai Delicious) with funding of 100,000 dollars for the development of the device.
