Microsoft has announced a series of improvements to OneDrive and Outlook.com, keeping its promise of enhanced protection and transparency for some of its core products.
Starting today, Outlook.com accounts will be protected with TLS (Transport Layer Security) for both incoming and outgoing emails, which means that the correspondence will be encrypted as it travels between Microsoft’s servers and the recipients.
At the same time, Outlook also leverages the benefits of the PFS (Perfect Forward Secrecy) protocol, which adds a new level of protection when sending and receiving email messages from a Microsoft account.
“PFS uses a different encryption key for each connection, making it more difficult for attackers to decrypt the connections,” the company explains.
Additionally, Microsoft’s OneDrive has also started using PFS encryption, so those who use the service for cloud file storage will receive enhanced protection when they connect, not only through the web interface, but also through the mobile applications.
