Microsoft has taken control of 22 domain names following a court order , claiming that they are being used to promote malware .
A Nevada state court has granted Microsoft control of 22 domain names owned by No-IP.com and used in a malware distribution network.
No-IP.com company that provides a fixed address and dynamic DNS to users with dynamic IPs.
Microsoft requested to filter all known harmful hostnames while leaving safe ones running.
However, it could not handle the billions of queries from NO-IP customers, and so millions of users faced service interruptions due to Microsoft's attempt to block the hostnames of a few malicious ones.
This resulted in 4 million sites being taken out of service, "at the altar" of the control of approximately 18 thousand suspicious websites, from which it emerged that approximately two thousand were ultimately active .
