The notorious hacker “Guccifer,” from Romania, has been sentenced to four years in prisonfor unauthorized access to email accounts belonging to public figures, Romanian government officials, diplomats and other high-profile U.S. figures.
“Guccifer” has managed to hack the accounts of members of the Bush family, Colin Powell, comedian Steve Martin, former Secretary of the Air Force George Roche, members of the Council on Foreign Relations, Bill Clinton and many more.
The court sentenced Marcel Lazar Lehel to three years in prison. The 40-year-old was also sentenced to three years of supervised release in February 2012 for similar crimes. So after merging the two sentences, the hacker will remain in prison for another 4 years. However, this decision is not final, as the defendant has the right to appeal.
The hacker admitted, during his last court appearance, that he hacked the email accounts of politician Corina Cretu and the head of the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) George Maior, with the aim of intercepting confidential information.
