Hacking team doulCi, consisting of MerrukTechnolog & AquaXetine, have managed to bypass Apple's iCloud Activation Lock failsafe, allowing users with locked devices to get them working again. The news may sound great at first, but the team's hack actually bypasses a security measure that is meant to prevent iPhones from being stolen.
The doulCi team (the team name is actually an anagram of iCloud) explains every step of the process on their website.
However, the hack as mentioned above indirectly allows iPhone and iPad thieves to activate the stolen devices to sell them on the black market.
"This amazing tool called doulCi can bypass iCloud Activation Lock and allow you to get your device working again to get your digital life, contacts, emails, notes, etc. back," the team says.
MerrukTechnolog & AquaXetine clarify that the "doulCi" tool was created for personal use only, and only for those whose mobile phone was hacked or who forgot their login password.
To their credit, the hackers reported the vulnerability to Apple.
Perhaps the release of iOS 7.1.2 after this particular hack is now necessary. It remains to be seen how long Apple will take to respond.
