"The happy song makes me very happy!" were the last words of the girl who tragically died in a car accident
A 32-year-old woman in North Carolina died instantly when the car she was driving collided with a truck. The most tragic thing is that seconds before the crash, this woman was taking selfies of herself, one of which she uploaded to Facebook along with the Pharrell Williams song "Happy." She even wrote in the comment: "Happy song makes me so happy."
This was Courtney Sanford's last post and perhaps her last thoughts as seconds later, the car she was driving collided with a truck while on an expressway.
"A life was lost in a matter of seconds, simply because she wanted to let her friends know she was happy," a police officer told a television station.
Footage from the scene of the accident showed the 32-year-old's car in a ditch off the road, on top of trees. Toxicology tests showed that the unfortunate girl had not consumed alcohol or other substances, so it is most likely that she died because her attention was focused on her cell phone.
Investigators found a series of selfies she had taken while driving on her phone, and as sad as it is, this is a harsh reminder to everyone: That simply put – we need to give our full attention to driving, for as long as we are in the car.
Police also said Sanford was wearing a seat belt, but it was not properly fastened.
It wasn't the first time the 32-year-old took selfies while driving. However, this time was the last.
