Complaints to the Greek Safer Internet Center, saferinternet.gr, have increased by over 110%.
As if we were in the middle of a square and talking loudly to all the passersby! This is how the people of Saferinternet.gr describe the way in which most users communicate through the Internet, most of the time exposing their children to danger!
The SafeLine of the Greek Safe Internet Center receives more than 2,000 calls per year. In addition to racism and financial fraud through online shopping, child abuse and pornography account for a high proportion.
As Veronica Samara, responsible for the information campaign of Saferinternet.gr, points out, “it is like leaving the door of our house wide open to anyone who wants to come in and get a “taste” of our private life. I think we would never do the above in the physical world, so the question arises why we do it on the Internet. Do we believe that we trust this information only to our friends?

Ms. Veronica Samara points out that when parents post information about their children on the Internet, such as photos, names, information about their children’s lives, they may – without intending to – put their children in danger. “Pedophiles, pedophiles and groomers – those who seduce minors for the purpose of sexual abuse – have found unlimited possibilities for finding victims through the Internet, and of course the first thing they will look for is information that will target the potential victim in the physical world: photos, names, addresses, school, etc.”.
Five tips suitable for minors
-Protect your privacy and do not give out your personal data recklessly.
-Do not access websites that require a password from computers in public places (Internet cafes, airports, etc.)
-Think before posting anything on the Internet, as from the moment of posting, you can never know where that posting may end up.
-Remember that people we only know online may not be who they say they are. When we don't meet them in the physical world, we can never be sure. Minors, especially, should never meet people they only know online.
-Do not give your passwords to anyone, even your closest friends. If you believe that any of your passwords have been learned or stolen, change them immediately.
