The Social Media giant has reached its first decade of life. The second biggest online revelation after Google has turned ten and is celebrating, rightly so. On this day, February 4, 2004, Mark Zuckerberg, the most successful and richest “eternal student”, was inspired by the idea of Facebook, its initial form, the famous “like” button, in 2008, until its entry into the stock market, which skyrocketed the value of the giant. The then Harvard student, together with four other classmates, created in the university dormitory the social network that was to change the world, online and real.
Facebook was originally created as an intramural communication tool for Massachusetts students. Seeing its popularity, Zuckerberg decided to open it to other American universities. Within a short period of time, Facebook's reputation skyrocketed and it was only a matter of time before it was made available to the non-university audience.
Facebook is currently used by 1.2 billion people each month, while its revenue for 2013 exceeded 7 billion dollars!
