Forecasts expected Santa's bag to be loaded with tablets... In the end, the first report of December sales reveals that the bag of gifts only contained tablets!
According to the overall estimate, 2013 was the year of the tablet, and sales during the Christmas holiday season exceeded all expectations. From 110,000 units in 2012, the entire Greek market is estimated to have exploded in 2013 to 400,000 devices, and in December alone, it is estimated that 100,000 tablets were sold.
On the contrary (and rather expectedly) the average value was decreasing, as already before Christmas approximately 75% of sales concerned devices worth less than 200 euros.
Smartphones
Smartphone sales also increased, although the overall mobile phone market declined. Smartphone volume is estimated to have reached 1,530,000 units, up from 1,467,000 in 2012, while total mobile phone sales fell to around 2.8 million units, down from 3.3 million in 2012.
Thus, almost 55% were smartphones - up from 43% in 2012, with the trend constantly increasing in favor of "smart" devices and, based on forecasts, reaching 60% in 2014.
Data traffic per user also showed a significant increase, according to data from Wind's network. In November, the volume per subscriber increased by 68% (389 Mb), compared to the same month in 2012 (232 Mb).
In the operating system category, Google's Android reached 81.5% of new devices, showing an increase of 4.7 percentage points from November to November, while in the same period Apple's iOS fell by 3.5 points, to 9.7%.
The improved performance of Microsoft's Windows Phone in November 2013 (8.6%) is noteworthy, when the twelve-month average was 4.5%.
