The National Security Agency will soon be the proud owner of a brand new data center that is currently under construction.
The data center is being built at Fort Meade in Maryland, and the Agency expects to cut the ribbon on this center sometime in 2016.
According to Environmental Leader, the National Security Agency recently announced that, unlike other similar facilities, its data center at Fort Meade will be cooled with the help of treated wastewater.
Water must be supplied by Howard County.
As part of the agreement between the counties in Maryland and the Agency, the latter must provide $40,000,000 (approximately €29,400,000) for the construction of a pumping station.
The Agency will also have to pay $2,000,000 (approximately €1,460,000) annually for the treatment of the wastewater it will receive.
In case anyone is wondering, approximately 5 million gallons of treated municipal wastewater must pass through the center on a daily basis.
