Some tax officials exploited their ability to access tax records, targeting the financial data of politicians, without this being in line with their professional competence. The Ministry's Financial Inspectorate ordered audits against them.

Specifically, ten days ago, the General Secretariat of Information Systems sent to the Economic Inspectorate and the General Secretariat of Public Revenue a list with the names of all tax officials who accessed, through Taxisnet and Elenxis, the personal details of Finance Minister Yiannis Stournaras, Deputy Finance Minister Christos Staikouras, Deputy Finance Minister Giorgos Mavraganis, Secretary General of Public Revenue Haris Theocharis, Secretary General of Information Systems Haris Tsavdaris, as well as general secretaries and general directors of the Ministry of Finance.

The orders received by the Economic Inspectorate are to find tax officers who are not related to the Tax Office, to which political figures belong, and therefore have no authority to search for sensitive financial data. According to journalistic information, in the near future a list of other "indiscernible" tax officers will be sent to the Economic Inspectorate, who, without documenting their auditing role, have audited the financial data of other political figures.
