The Hellenic Association of Banks (HABA) and its member banks are providing recommendations to online banking customers, in addition to the security measures they themselves are taking, due to the fact that bank customers continue to receive misleading messages via email.
In particular, they recommend to customers:
– Never reveal your personal passwords to anyone.
In case you suspect that your password has been leaked, contact your Bank immediately.
– Ignore “suspicious” e-mails that ask for your personal information (account number, secret personal codes, name, etc.) or contain links to “unknown” websites. Banks will not ask for your personal information via e-mail or telephone for any reason. For this reason, delete these e-mails as fake and ignore any possible phone calls.
– Make sure that you are at the correct address of your bank.
Never connect to your bank’s website via an external link provided to you by a third party, especially via e-mail. Make sure that the “padlock” icon appears on your Bank’s Online Banking website, which you can double-click to confirm that you are in your Bank’s secure environment.
– Set your computer’s operating system and antivirus program to update automatically.
If you do not know how to do this, consult your computer vendor.
