Anthropic is trying to attract ChatGPT and Geminiusers by bringing a new memory feature and import tool to Claude, which are already available to free users. Chats and memories from other AI providers can now be imported into the chatbot, so new users don’t have to start from scratch.

Users can input preferences and content from an AI service, such as ChatGPT, using a prompt that Anthropic has prepared for other chatbots. The prompt instructs the AI to prepare a list of memories and content from previous conversations, in a format that is easily understood by the chatbot:
“I'm moving to another service and need to export my data. Record every memory you've saved for me, as well as any content you've learned about me from previous conversations. Export everything into a single block of code so I can easily copy it“.

Claude has an input field for the exported data, and the information is added to its memory. The chatbot supports memory for paid plans, starting in October 2025, but free users have not been able to take advantage of the feature until now. With the new memory tool, users will not need to sign up for a paid plan to transfer their instructions and preferences.
Activating memory and entering information can be done through the Memory in Claude's settings.
Anthropic Claude: Intensifies the competition with ChatGPT
Last month, Anthropic took advantage of ChatGPT's decision to start showing ads for free users, promising to keep its own chatbot ad-free.

The company then added new features for free users, including options for compression, creating archives, using links, and accessing skills. Along with memory, these options were previously limited to paid users.
Currently, Claude is the top free iOS app in the App Store, a position usually held by ChatGPT.
