It's a beautiful Thursday morning and you've woken up with the sunrise to go for a nice, long run before a busy day. Except your activity tracker isn't syncing with the app! If you use Fitbit, you might be in exactly that predicament today, as a major outage is affecting the company's servers.

On Fitbit's status board, the company confirms that there is an ongoing outage that began about three hours ago. While the page lists issues with the Fitbit app and web API, it notes that device syncing is still working — but user reports say otherwise.
On Reddit, posts from users like bitter_sweet9798 and The0Walrus specifically mention syncing issues — though we imagine that for most users it's difficult to tell whether the problem is with the app or the background syncing system

At this time, Fitbit says it is continuing to investigate the outage, without providing further details or instructions on how to resolve the issue. Based on what users are reporting, we would recommend not experimenting too much with the app out of frustration, as those who tried uninstalling and reinstalling it experienced issues even with simply logging into their accounts.

Your Fitbit device will continue to record data during this break, so technically there's no reason to use it as an excuse not to exercise — although we totally get it. For many of us, updating our stats after a workout is an important part of our daily routine, and not being able to sync your progress is definitely annoying.

We hope Fitbit resolves the outage soon and everything is back to normal by tomorrow.
