Amazon has announced that it will shut down its Android app store on August 20 of this year. According to a notice sent to developers, it will no longer be possible to submit new apps to the store.

The company announced via a support page that it will also stop operating the digital currency Coins, which were used to purchase games and apps from the app store.
"Starting August 20, 2025, you will no longer have access to the Amazon Appstore on your Android device. We will also be discontinuing the Amazon Coins program on August 20, 2025," the company said on a support page.
Amazon announced that it will refund money for any coins held by users from August 20th onwards.

The company said the app store will continue to be available on its own devices, such as the Fire TV and Fire Tablet, ensuring their seamless operation.
Last year, security researchers at McAfee Labs discovered an app on App Store that was posing as a health tool, while in fact spreading malware.
The company did not provide an immediate response to questions raised about the store closure.
Amazon has been trying to compete with Google by developing an alternative app store ecosystem since 2011. At the same time, it tried to bolster its failed Fire Phone through its own app store, seeking to create a differentiated experience for users.

Amazon announced last year that it would stop supporting its Windows, which provides Android apps, starting March 5, 2025. This program originally started in 2021, being an innovative initiative of the company.
