Palmer Luckey, the founder of Oculus and a military contractor, is now selling a Game Boy. He calls it the ModRetro Chromatic , and it plays original Game Boy cartridges just like the Analogue Pocket.
ModRetro Chromatic brings some really flawless color combinations that make it very attractive.
It also comes with Tetris.

Suppose you've been anxiously waiting for the Game Boy-. In this case, another company is preparing to release another handheld so you can play your old cartridges without any hassle with emulation. ModRetro now has the not-Game Boy, but the $200. At first glance, it seems like a safe bet for a portable console purchase. Unfortunately, buying one also means supporting one of the most controversial figures in tech: Palmer Luckey.
The ModRetro Chromatic looks to be a very strong contender in the world of portable retro consoles. It features a 160x144 backlit display covered in synthetic sapphire for scratch resistance and a magnesium alloy shell. It’s compatible with Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and “Chromatic” cartridges, the latter of which are select indie homebrews made specifically for the new handheld. ModRetro says the Chromatic will support FPGA emulation, a type of hardware emulation that will play the original cartridges as they were meant to be played.

It also has a cable port, an IR receiver for those who want to trade their Pokémon up close, and a small, modern feature with a USB-C. However, it still runs on three AA batteries. It also has a special version of Tetris.
It looks good whether you get it in some bright, eye-catching colors with some stripes running down the bottom left corner of it. Unfortunately, you'll have to give money to a company run by Palmer Lucky to get one.
There are plenty of reasons not to support Oculus founder Palmer Luckey. His current company, Anduril, is a contractor for the US military and has worked on drones and autonomous military aircraft. He has a history of supporting far-right and extremist policies, going so far as to promote a so-called “virtual border wall” during President Donald Trump. That’s before you even get into the difficulties of his relationship with Meta (then Facebook), which ultimately led to his departure.
In a video posted by the former Oculus CEO, Luckey claims that the Chromatic has “the same pixel structure” as the Game Boy Color screen, mimicking the weird colors you’d see on Nintendo’s original controllers. With a messy chin-length beard, wavy hair, and a Hawaiian shirt, he also claimed that they wanted “the best” device, even if “itdoesn’t make financial sense.”

Luckey said on blog that he’s been working on modded Game Boys for 17 years. ModRetro was an online forum that started before Oculus VR was founded. Before the virtual reality scene exploded and became an inappropriately controversial figure in the tech world, he added LED lighting to the Game Boy Pocket. He called Chromatic “an unapologetically authentic celebration of everything that made the console special.”
