ADT will soon launch a Smart Home Security System

A YouTube video uploaded by ADT seems to confirm that the leaked ADT Smart Home Security System (Smart Home Security System) is just around the corner, and will probably be released next month.

All signs point to the inevitable release of ADT's new smart home security system, a DIY security system born out of a partnership between Google and ADT. This may be a better security option for those who loved and missed the excellent, but expensive system Google Nest Secure, which Google permanently withdraws on 8 April 2024.

As reported in October 2023, hidden support pages on ADT's website showed that the company - in which Google invested $450 million in 2020 - was about to release a new DIY security system με την ονομασία ADT Smart Home Security.

From the leaks, it appeared that the new product had better features and better industrial design than the ADT Self Setup option Google offered Nest Secure customers as a suitable replacement for the system.

However, shortly after the article was published, the pages on the ADT website disappeared, and since then we have not heard anything official from ADT about the new system.

This week, the company published a short installation video on its YouTube page explaining how to install the new ADT Base which is "the heart of the ADT Smart Home Security system," according to the video.

A reader of The Verge provided the information about the video and also said that an ADT spokesperson told him that it would be available for purchase in February. They contacted the company, but did not receive a reply by the time of publication. However, the YouTube video has been withdrawn from publication.

The video didn't provide any other details about the new system, but did include images of all the products we mentioned, including the illuminated keypad on the base and images of the door and window sensor that look very similar to the excellent Nest Detect sensors.

The new system includes a central base station, door sensors and Window and Sensors traffic that seem to be better than the more basic equipment that ADT is known for. These are combined with devices such as leakage sensors and tobacco.

The leaks indicated that the system may be self-monitoring or professional monitoring and will work with products Z-Wave to complement the smart home solutions on offer. Products may include lights, locks and thermostats, and the system can be integrated with Google Nest smart devices such as Cameras, bells, products Wi-Fi, Speakers and screens.

ADT is known for its professional installation and monitoring services. In early 2020, it had unveiled a DIY smart home solution with ADT Blue, but after the investment from Google, it quietly shut down the service and announced that Google Nest products will become the main component of its smart home solution offerings.

Today, ADT offers Google Nest products with all of its security solutions, including its second effort in the DIY space - ADT Self Setup. This was the option Google offered to Google Nest Secure customers, but it's a more basic system that lacks the innovative features offered by the Nest Secure platform. And according to several posts on Reddit, doesn't connect as well with Google's products, leaving Google Nest users looking for better alternatives.

ADT's offer for Google Nest Secure customers is valid until 7 May 2024. So if you're holding onto your voucher, it might be worth waiting a few more weeks to see if this new system is implemented, if it's any good, and if ADT will offer it to former Nest Secure users.
