Beeper Mini, which brings iMessage to Android, is back a few days after being shut down by Apple.
Beeper Mini is an app that allows users to send and receive text messages using the iMessage protocol. Apple discovered its existence and disabled the service, citing “serious risks” to user security. On December 11, Beeper was able to restore connectivity, but now users must log in with their credentials, rather than simply their Android smartphone’s phone number.

This ease of use was particularly appealing, as it didn't require adding or creating another connection. According to Beeper's post, messages will be exchanged via the email address listed on your AppleID. While this isn't as convenient, at least users can still communicate via iMessage.
There are plans to restore the ability to register a phone number at a later date, although there is no information on when the feature will be restored. Beeper may revert to a monthly fee. You can continue to support Beeper with an active $2 subscription during this period, but it is not mandatory.
