Temu: Users are spending more and more time in the app – Amazon is lagging behind

A new study from Apptopia found that online shoppers spend almost twice as much time on the Temu app as they do on apps from major competitors like Amazon. Temu, an online shopping app owned by China’s PDD Holdings Inc, has been wooing shoppers around the world with its incredibly low prices .

According to the research, on average, users spent 18 minutes per day on the Temu app in the second quarter of the year. The corresponding time for Amazon was 10 minutes and for AliExpress 11 minutes.

However, time spent on Temu, or engagement user, continues to increase. By October, users were spending nearly 22 minutes a day on the app, widening the gap with giants like Amazon, Walmart Inc. and TargetCorp.

Temu was founded in 2022. Although it is a very new company, it has caused a global frenzy, since you can find everything at very low prices. Home goods, clothes, shoes, cosmetics, jewelry, gadgets and much more. Temu representatives claim that they can and have these prices because they have eliminated the intermediaries between the consumer and the manufacturer. The difference with other companies is great, which is why more and more users are turning to this application.

Temu follows an aggressive marketing strategy, with ads popping up on every website, video , or game.

The addictive app is at the heart of the Chinese company's strategy. It allows users to play games to earn rewards, and there's also the option to spin a roulette-like wheel to earn a voucher . The value of the voucher increases if users buy something within 10 minutes.

The Temu app is available in more than 40 countries and is expanding day by day. In some cases, it has even surpassed the Chinese Shein, which had experienced the same success and popularity shortly before Temu made its “big bang”.

However, because it is a new platform, it has received a lot of criticism. Some argue that it is an online scam and that people should be careful with their purchases. Germany issued a statement that many of the products arrive damaged during transport, while others claim that they receive different products than the ones they ordered.
