Apple may already be working on 6G technology for iPhones

Apple has long been working on its own 5G modem for the iPhones, which was expected to be released in the next few years. But a recent development regarding a deal with Qualcomm suggests that her intentions have changed. And now, a new report suggests that Apple may have actually stopped work on the 5G modem and instead is ready to create a 6G modem for iPhones.

It's interesting to observe the Go to of attention from 5G to 6G, but this may be possible because Apple already has a strong deal with Qualcomm that continues to provide 5G modems for iPhones, which makes the situation profitable for both companies. So it makes sense for the Cupertino giant to invest in the future, which comes in the form of 6G networks.

According to his report Bloomberg, Apple has been working on the 6G modem since 2021 and wants it to be ready when the network goes live, planned for around 2030. According to the report, Apple has begun extensive Research and development work on 6G technology in order to have a head start in the rollout of 6G public networks and to offset the higher costs of working with companies such as Qualcomm on modem.

Apple has managed to outperform other processor manufacturers with the high performance of the M series available in Macs, iPads and more products.

However, developing a modem is a different ball game and the company clearly understands the task ahead of them in creating the 6G modem, which explains its alleged planning almost 2 years ago. Countries like India have also started planning 6G networks, which, according to the country's status, should be operational by 2030. We're still waiting to see the actual dynamics of 5G networks, but the buzz is starting to build for 6G now that Apple has entered the scene.

6G technology differs from previous generations of wireless technology in several key ways. First, it aims to deliver significantly higher data speeds compared to 5G. While 5G offers maximum speeds of up to 10 gigabits per second (Gbps), 6G is expected to offer speeds of up to 100 Gbps or higher. This massive increase in speed will enable a wide range of new applications and services that require extremely high data rates, such as holographic communication, immersive virtual reality and real-time surgery.

Secondly, the 6G is expected to have much lower latency compared to its predecessors. Latency refers to the time it takes for the data from source to destination. While 5G has achieved impressive latency reductions compared to 4G, 6G aims to further minimise latency in the millisecond range. This near-instantaneous response time will be vital for Applications that require real-time interactions, such as autonomous vehicles, smart cities and advanced robotics.

Another important difference is the increased capacity of 6G networks. With the proliferation of connected devices and the exponential growth of data traffic, 6G aims to support a huge number of simultaneous connections. This will be achieved through advanced network architecture, including the use of higher frequency bands, massive Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) technology and intelligent beamforming. The increased capacity will enable seamless connectivity for billions of devices, paving the way for the Internet of Things (IoT) to reach its full potential.

In addition, 6G is expected to introduce new spectrum bands and use higher frequencies compared to previous generations. While 5G mainly operates in the sub-6 GHz and millimeter wave bands, 6G may use even higher frequency bands, such as terahertz frequencies. These higher frequencies offer greater bandwidth and faster data rates, but also pose technical challenges due to higher transmission losses. Overcoming these challenges will require innovative solutions and new technologies.
