Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro: The New Generation of Mobiles with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

Qualcomm 's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset is brand new and, as usual, Xiaomi has already announced new flagship devices that use it.

The Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro will initially only be available in China before a potential global launch (excluding the US). However, the AI features and new Android software called HyperOS give us a pretty good idea of what to expect in 2024.

The Xiaomi 14 has a 6.3-inch display, while the 14 Pro has a 6.7-inch display. Both displays offer a maximum brightness of 3,000 nits and are LTPO with refresh rates of 1-120 Hz. The 14 has a flat display and narrow bezels measuring 1.61 mm thick on three sides, while at the bottom there is a sharp chin with a 1.71 mm thick bezel.

The iPhone 14 Pro's display is flat, but its bezels are slightly curved around the edges and corners of the display. All sides are shaped similarly—previous versions, like the iPhone 13 Pro, had sharper curves at the edges. However, this time around, both sides are much flatter along the back and sides of the device.

The 14 Pro's main camera lens has a variable aperture of 1,024 stops, from a maximum of f/1.4 to a minimum of f/4.0. This offers more flexibility than the 13 Ultra, which only had two stops. Both the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro feature 50-megapixel Leica-branded main cameras, along with a telephoto lens of approximately 3x or 75mm and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera.

They use HyperOS software, developed by Xiaomi and based on Android. The system is designed to run on a variety of devices, including mobile phones, computers, cars and homes.

And what 2023 tech announcement would be without the inclusion of artificial intelligence? The iPhone 14 and 14 Pro will feature built-in AI core models, which is one of the features of the 8 Gen 3 chipset.

Xiaomi Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

We expect to see the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in many more devices in the coming months. Meanwhile, Xiaomi devices are available for pre-order: the Xiaomi 14 starts at CNY 3,999 (~$518) and the 14 Pro starts at CNY 4,999 (~$648).
