Ubisoft 's Summer Game Fest livestream revealed a ton of new footage from the upcoming 2D Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. It also gave us even more time to love the Prince's new design for the game that somehow managed to cause a stir.

This surprise 2D for Prince of Persia was revealed during the Summer Game Fest stream on Thursday night, but yesterday we saw a lot more of it, including some of the massive power moves you'll be able to play with.
Prince of Persia was originally released in 1989, as the brainchild of a team led by Jordan Mechner. After a string of successes, the franchise made a triumphant return in 2003 with the amazing Sands of Time, followed by slightly lower returns with Warrior Within and The Two Thrones. Then things went a bit haywire, with the much more divisive 2008 reboot and a collection of smaller PoP games, The Forgotten Sands. But since 2010, poor Prince hasn't managed to release a new game.
A Sands of Time remake never came out, with its release date pushed back and forth and eventually pulled altogether. This was made even more strange by the fact that alongside all of this, a completely different PoP game was in the works, although it looks like it could be great.

There were also plenty of angry people online who were outraged by the material, because as a species we fear change. As VGC reported, the initial trailer received waves of hate across multiple uploads, with dislikes outnumbering likes by more than twice as much.
It's hilarious that some of the complaints were that it's not a "real" Prince of Persia game because it's not 3D. Others are upset that the prince has a new look and is therefore not the right Prince of their heart. Except, as series creator Mechner rather astutely pointed out, said Prince has been massively redesigned in almost every game in the series.
This promising new addition is expected to be released on January 18th, 2024, but since this is a Ubisoft game, we can probably expect it sometime in space year 30X7.
