After releasing new firmware for its AirPods wireless headphones , Apple is now releasing a similar update for its AirTag object tracker. Here are the highlights of the new version.

The new firmware version for today is version 2.0.24 and has the build number 2A24e. The most recent AirTag firmware version to date was 1.0.301 with the build number 1A301. It's unclear what changes the update will bring, as Apple hasn't provided any release notes.
Apple released the previous AirTag firmware on April 28th, which the company said improved the unwanted detection sound to make it easier for users to locate an unknown AirTag.

You can check your AirTag's firmware version by opening the Find My on iPhone and selecting the Items tab in the bottom navigation bar. Select your AirTag from the list of items and tap its name. Once you do this, your AirTag's serial number and firmware version should appear.
There is no way to update your AirTag manually. Just hold your AirTag near your iPhone and it will update automatically after a while.
