Apple will start manufacturing the iPhone 6s Plus in India in an effort to make the device more affordable for local buyers.
The iPhone 6s Plus is the second smartphone from Apple to be manufactured in India, after the iPhone SE. The manufacturing process will be handled by Wistron Corporation, an Apple partner that also assembled the iPhone 8 Plus. According to reports, Wistron has already begun trial production of the device at its Bengaluru, India facility.
One of the reasons Apple plans to manufacture the iPhone 6s Plus locally is to reduce the price of the device by up to 7%, according to reports. This will make the iPhone 6s Plus more competitive compared to models from Samsung and OnePlus, which are benefiting from increased sales in the country.
On the other hand, it seems that Apple 's new pricing strategy will be implemented gradually, as Wistron does not have the production capacity required to cover the estimated quantity of the new devices. In other words, part of the inventory in the Indian market will still come from China , but sooner or later, the iPhone 6s Plus is expected to benefit from a significant price cut.
As it turns out, Apple is betting big on the Indian market, and expanding its presence in the country is part of its plans to increase its share of the local market.
In the United States, the iPhone 6s Plus is available with prices starting at $549 for the 32 GB version, while the 128 GB version goes for $649. Prices, however, are expected to drop significantly this year, when Apple introduces a new, more affordable iPhone whose pricing is expected to start at $699.
