TAG Heuer is one of the most prominent smartwatch manufacturers, and every year the company launches a new model that costs more than the amount a typical Apple Watch buyer might spend on such a device.
Following last year's Connected Modular 45 watch, which was available for $1,600, TAG Heuer is back with an improved model (in terms of looks) that features no less than 589 diamonds totaling 23.35 carats. It also boasts a polished white gold diamond set and safety buttons.
This makes it the most expensive smartwatch ever launched and it could soon be yours for a whopping $180,000. Obviously, it's not sold online, but you should be able to order it from a TAG Heuer retailer.
In terms of hardware specs, there's a good chance the Apple Watch Series 3 will be a much more capable smartwatch than the new super-expensive TAG Heuer model.
The Connected Modular 45 diamond version runs on Android Wear 2.0 and features a 1.39-inch AMOLED display covered in 2.5mm-thick sapphire glass and a screen resolution of 400x400px, 24-bit and 297ppi. Power comes from an Intel Atom Z34xx processor paired with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage.
Sensors include an accelerometer, microphone, haptic mechanism, ambient light sensor, GPS and NFC, and the watch supports Bluetooth 4.1 and Wi-Fi. The battery is a 410 mAh unit that TAG Heuer says should last up to 25 hours of normal use, which is less than a day in real life.
The device works with both iOS and Android and lacks more advanced features like water resistance, because seriously, who wants to go swimming with a smartwatch worth around $200,000 that's covered in diamonds?
It remains to be seen how many people will actually buy this smartwatch, but given its price, you can probably count them on the fingers of one hand.
