CentOS project developer and maintainer Johnny Hughes has announced the availability of a new, important security update to the Linux kernel for the CentOS 7 series of operating systems.
The CentOS 7 operating system is derived and freely distributed from the source code of the commercial Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system, which means it benefits from its security code.
According to the recent RHSA-2017:0086-1 security advisory, which was rated as important, three vulnerabilities have been fixed.
Two of these vulnerabilities are rated moderate and one is rated important. For anyone interested in learning more, the vulnerabilities are documented as CVE-2016-7117, CVE-2016-6828 , and CVE-2016-9555.
To mitigate the risks, it is recommended to install the new kernel-3.10.0-514.6.1.el7.x86_64 package from the official repositories as soon as possible.
A regular update of your system will take care of this, but don't forget to reboot your machine to get it working with the new kernel.
Below is the terminal screen you will see after updating your system, if you choose to do it from the command line.
