Symantec Creates Better Protection Against Mobile Threats

Symantec has developed a new solution to address one of the biggest challenges in today’s IT environment: protecting against threats on mobile devices. Symantec has enhanced its enterprise Mobility solution, bringing together technologies needed to optimize productivity, protect information across devices and applications, and create a solution that enables businesses to confidently embrace mobility in their workforce.

“Symantec is the first company to integrate MDM, app wrapping, threat protection, and email client and browser apps into an enterprise mobile management solution,” said Christos Ventouris, Information Security Specialist, Southeast Europe, Symantec. “In the enterprise sector, our footprint in security solutions, combined with our unique knowledge and unrivaled ability to deliver complete solutions, are what differentiate us. We are replicating this expertise in the mobile space, so that our customers can give their employees the tools they need to remain productive, while ensuring the right level of security to protect them.”

The protection of corporate data in today's mobile environment is an increasingly complex challenge for the IT field that spans devices, the cloud, and the data transferred in this environment. New mobile capabilities increase the risk of data leaks, malicious software, unauthorized access, and lost devices.

The development of Symantec's mobile solutions focuses on providing secure access to mobile apps, content and devices, as well as capabilities for executing access management, creating compliance policies, encryption and data loss prevention. The new solutions have made improvements for protecting corporate email, one of the most widely used mobile applications worldwide.

Key Upgrades in Mobile Solutions

Symantec has developed the following enhancements to mobile security and productivity solutions:

  • Norton Mobile Security: The integration of Norton Mobile Security into the App Center creates capabilities unmatched by any other mobile device management solution. The combined tools offer a single management environment that provides device protection and compliance policy enforcement, while protecting Android users from malware, privacy risks, dangerous freeware and dangerous websites.
  • Symantec Sealed:   Symantec's application wrapping technology helps customers easily manage a secure ecosystem of third-party Licensed applications and business applications in a single, secure workspace for users.
  • NortonMobileInsight: The exclusive Intelligence tool that processes 10,000 new apps every 24 hours provides dynamic analysis for apps in more than 200 app stores to identify potential security risks, privacy risks and potential intrusion behavior.
  • Email Gateway: Released as a feature of App Center 4.4, Email Gateway provides a secure buffer between mobile devices and Exchange Active Sync (EAS) email servers. By maintaining independence from existing EAS mail infrastructures, Email Gateway mitigates unauthorized access, malware, and malicious attacks on corporate email systems.
  • Secure App Proxy: Also in App Center 4.4, Secure App Proxy provides granular and secure access to corporate network resources. This allows business administrators to extend access to data through the corporate firewall without the need for device-level VPN or MDM control.
  • Partner APIs :  In the updated App Center 4.4, new APIs allow external partners such as system integrators, telecommunications providers and service providers to integrate App Center portability capabilities into existing IT infrastructure or third-party applications.
  • Creating SecureLogins for End Users Easier: technology for Symantec Validation and ID Protection (VIP) eliminates the need to manually enter a PIN when connecting to a VPN, for example. Users can allow it via the “allow” command and the VPN client will connect automatically.
  • NortonSpot: This beta app provides information about potential Android app threats to users before they download apps from Google Play. No other provider on the market offers this unique capability.

What we expect in the future

Email productivity will remain a top priority for businesses. To address this growing need, Symantec acquired NitroDesk and will integrate the popular email application with Symantec’s existing app-wrapping environment and device management, threat protection, data loss prevention, authentication and identity technologies to provide customers with a solution that improves business collaboration and on-the-go productivity.
