Microsoft has announced that Windows 8.1 will be released on October 18th from the Windows Store and retail stores and will be a free update for those who already have Windows 8 installed.
Windows 8.1 will bring several new features. Among them will be the long-awaited Start button, improvements to the modern interface, and a bunch of other things that seem to aim to improve the appearance of the operating system. Microsoft has not mentioned anything about security improvements, except for the new updated Internet Explorer, which will reach version 11 with Windows 8.1.
The date that Windows 8.1 will hit RTM has not been officially announced, but it will probably be in the last week of August.
