A car powered by tweets, Likes and shares was built by students in Kansas City who are participating in a different education program in the US, Minddrive.
They completely dismantled a damaged 1967 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia and reassembled it, turning it into an electric car powered by lithium-ion batteries.
On the dashboard of the brand new Karmann Ghia, there is a small tablet with the fuel gauge rising with every tweet with the hashtag #minddrive, Like on Facebook or share on Instagram or views on YouTube.
With this clever marketing ploy, students and teachers say they are attempting to draw attention to the reshaping of the education system in the US, promoting so-called "experiential learning", that is, education in practice.
The goal of the few students participating in Minddrive is to generate enough response to their effort to travel from Kansas City to Washington to send their message for changes in the US education system, signing off that action leads to learning. The bar is already high and the “social fuel” is enough to cover more than half the distance.
