New plans filed by Apple today regarding the construction of the upcoming Campus 2 show the company's effort to reduce costs as much as possible, which according to a report in previous days is already $2 billion over budget.

The initial plan to construct buildings covering an area of approximately 56 thousand square meters included two phases: Phase 1 to be carried out simultaneously with the construction of the main Campus, with Phase 2 scheduled for a much later date. Now, the first phase has been postponed to Phase 2, i.e. after the completion of the main Campus.

The cost of the project is said to be Steve Jobs, whose obsession with design and quality of construction has led to the choice of expensive methods. “The real output of the campus is not so much the green technology but the materials – and what designers call ‘fit and finish’,” the publication reports. “As with Apple products, Jobs wanted no gaps, no visible seams and no visible touches. Every floor, ceiling and wall must be polished to the highest possible gloss. All interior wood must be a specific type of maple, and only the best quality ‘heartwood’ from the center of the trees can be used.”.

Campus 2 is expected to be completed in 2016.
