Security firm Webroot has uncovered an online underground marketplace selling access to over 1,500 PayPal accounts. Most of the exposed accounts belong to users in the United States.
Cybercriminals selling the accounts provide buyers with information via the “underground” website, such as the name of the account holder, the sale price, the type of account, the amount it contains, and whether the credit card and bank account are verified or not.

For example, with $20, anyone can purchase a verified “premier” account with a balance of $337.
“What is particularly interesting about this e-shop is the fact that the criminals are giving away a free SOCKS5 proxy with every purchase, allowing buyers to connect anonymously to their hacked PayPal accounts,” says Dancho Danchev of Webroot.
