Tim Cook attended the Goldman Sachs conference today where he was asked a lot of questions about Apple. One of the questions was whether Apple has reached its peak. His answer was as follows:
“We create products that people didn't know they wanted and now they can't live without them”
According to Cook, Apple believed there was a lot of room for growth in the mobile market, so it took advantage of it:
I believe that in the future all phones will be smartphones. There are many more people in the world than the 1.4 billion who already use smartphones and I see this as one of the best purchases of all time.
There's been a huge boost. From 2007 to 2012, 500 million iPhones have been sold, with 40% of those sales happening last year. There's been an incredible boost to the market in such a short period of time, and it's also helped developers tremendously. We've given them a total of $8 billion.
The iPhone is only available in 50% of the world. Frankly speaking, I see a lot of room for growth.
