The evasi0n jailbreak took much longer than any other jailbreak tool to be released, however, it seems that the wait was worth it for the millions of iOS users.
Just four days after its availability to the public, 7 million iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch users broke free from Apple’s “chains” and jailbroke their device to be able to customize it to their liking.
Jay Freeman, the manager of Cydia, told Forbes that on Thursday night, the online store for jailbroken devices had received a total of 5.15 million iPhone, 1.35 million iPad and 400,000 iPod touch visits, all of which were jailbroken with evasi0n.
evasi0n is the first tool that jailbreaks the iPhone 5 and iOS 6.1. Freeman said that thanks to this, the traffic to Cydia has increased much more compared to the previous jailbreak tool Absinthe, however it did not provide exact figures.
Additionally, the popularity of the evasi0n tool has increased because there are now many more iOS devices in the world. Apple sold 136 million iPhones in 2012 alone. However, Freeman says that another reason for the tool's increased popularity stems from the fact that Apple still has its system locked.
Smartphones are becoming increasingly popular, yet they remain locked, preventing users from doing what they want. Therefore, people are forced to jailbreak.
