If you've read the latest reports and analyst forecasts, Apple will either have to drop the price of the iPhone or make a cheaper model if it wants to compete with Samsung and get ahead. The Korean company currently has the largest market share in the United States and is expected to grow even more in 2013. However, did you know that Apple sold 88 million more devices?
Raymond James analyst Tavis McCourt compared Apple's total sales with Samsung's and it seems that the iPhone far surpassed the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note, to be precise, 219 million iPhones were sold and only 131 million Galaxy S and Note.
The iPhones included in the survey are the iPhone 4, 4S and 5 versus the five devices in the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note families.
"Although the Galaxy S series has been a huge success and although there has been a sudden negative sentiment towards the iPhone, we thought it would be interesting to compare Galaxy sales against the iPhone over the last two and a half years," McCourt said.
Samsung has enjoyed great success with its Android phones in recent years, largely due to the Galaxy S series. Earlier this week, it was revealed that the Galaxy S series had sold 100 million units, with the S III selling 40 million units, but that's still not enough to overtake the iPhone.
Apple's stock may have fallen and there's speculation that demand for the iPhone 5 has waned, but McCourt says there's no need to panic for the Cupertino company. The iPhone continues to sell well, and Apple's market share may be smaller, but it's growing faster than Samsung's.
