The first BitTorrent-certified Android box has hit the market today. And what is it? It will let you download files with uTorrent and stream them wirelessly(!) straight to your TV. The new set-top box supports playback of all popular video formats and can also download torrents on its own, completely anonymously, if needed.
With a quarter of a billion active users, BitTorrent is without a doubt the most widely used file-sharing platform.
The vast majority of these BitTorrent users who download video files have difficulty viewing them on their TV screen and usually watch them through a computer monitor.
The first certified BitTorrent Android box aims to change that. It was originally scheduled to launch in December, but it didn't make it. But today it's officially out.
While we've already seen devices that support BitTorrent downloads, this will be the first device that can stream content and download via uTorrent or other BitTorrent clients on a local network.
Below is a screenshot (torrentfreak) of the user interface showing the various BitTorrent clients that the device can connect to wirelessly.
Since the device supports DLNA, users can also access other libraries and media, such as the itTorrent client Vuze and Apple's iTunes.
The BitTorrent BBK box sells for around 90 euros and only in European countries.
