Apple's Find my iPad tool may lead Thai police to notorious gang hideouts. Technology: 1, gangsters: 0!
“Find my iPhone” also has an option that allows users to locate their iPad in case it is stolen or lost, but a spate of recent incidents have not only led to the tablet being found, but the iPad has also helped authorities locate the hideout of a local gang. This isn’t the first time this tool has brought criminals to justice. The security feature allows authorities to intervene in different circumstances.
Earlier this year, authorities were able to locate a kidnapped teenager, and about a year or two before that, the exact same feature was used to recover $350,000 worth of items. Now, local reports have said that someone whose iPad was stolen by force was able to recover it, but other than that, local police were able to strike gold, as they were able to arrest the criminals of a notorious local gang called Ma Diaw.
While the police were able to arrest one member of the gang, the rest evaded capture by jumping out of the window and swimming into the river to successfully escape. However, the progress of the escape was suddenly cut short as a manhunt suddenly began and the police were able to arrest the remaining gang members who were in the hideout.
It goes without saying that technology has once again assisted authorities in apprehending criminals, which shows that the future and improvement of applications of these security features will obviously become more practical in eliminating criminal elements.
