ESET® joins forces with Facebook’s anti-malware initiative and offers ESET Online Scanner for free to all Facebook users. ESET ’s solution helps users detect and identify malware that has been uploaded to their account after logging in from an infected computer and safely remove it. ESET Online Scanner will be available to all Facebook users starting today .

“Our goal is to provide users with the right technology to improve their experience with our services and better protect their devices. ESET Online Scanner for Facebook will significantly reduce the number of malicious links among the trillions of clicks made on Facebook every day,” said Chetan Gowda, Facebook’s CEO. ESET Online Scanner for Facebook is designed to detect and clean infected computers from Facebook users. “We are pleased to offer our services to Facebook users around the world. The low signature footprint and ESET’s recognized leading technology used in ESET Online Scanner guarantee effective and easy detection at no cost,” notes Ignacio Sbampato, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer at ESET.
When a Facebook user logs into their account, Facebook checks for suspicious behavior – such as sending spam messages or infected links to the user’s friends. If such activity is detected, Facebook displays a message giving the user the option to use ESET Online Scanner, which runs directly on Facebook without payment or interference. By downloading the application and performing the scan, users can continue using Facebook and other activities without affecting performance. Upon completion of the scan, they receive a notification via Facebook and can review the results. Cleanup begins after the scan is complete if any malware is detected, while, at the end, the user receives the results with a link that refers them to www.eset.com. This service for Facebook is based on the free ESET Online Scanner application, which protects millions of users. Among more than 44 million scans, ESET Online Scanner has successfully detected malware in about half of the incidents.
